Disney Announces Variable Pricing for Genie+

Disney Announces Variable Pricing for Genie+

Genie+ prices are on the move across all Disney Parks.

The moment we have all (begrudgingly) anticipated has finally arrived and I can’t say it’s all that great. Disney has announced some significant changes to how Genie+ will operate at Disneyland in addition to pricing adjustments from East to West Coast. Let’s dive in a bit more and take a closer look at what this all means.

What is Genie+

On August 18th, 2021, Disney announced that their original FastPass System was being discontinued and replaced with a “new” system called the Disney Genie & Genie+. Each segment is one in the same, but Disney Genie is FREE to every guest, and serves as a virtual itinerary or “in-park assistant,” and Genie+ is a paid for service that allows you to skip the line when in the parks.

Genie+ debuted on October 19, 2021 and (in our opinion) fell flat especially at the Walt Disney World Resort. Original pricing was set at $20 per person, per day at the Disneyland Resort and $15 per person, per day at Walt Disney World. With Disney’s new announcement, we are seeing this all change. Per Disney Destinations, Disney Genie+ service will be moved to variable pricing for all Genie+ products, beginning TODAY, Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2022.

Disneyland Changes

Disney Genie+ at Disneyland will move from $20 up to $25 per person, per day when purchased in advance.

Single-day purchases for Disney Genie+ through the Disneyland app will begin at $25 per day, and may vary by date, based on demand.

The Disneyland Genie+ product will continue to include Memory Maker photo package. Which in our opinion is a welcomed inclusion and highly recommended as a must have!

WebSlingers

WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure at Disney’s California Adventure Park will move from the paid for Individual Lightning Lane list to the standard Genie+ attractions list. This is GREAT news in our opinion as it will give guests more options with standard Genie+ and less out of pocket expense, with an Individual Lightning Lane purchase.

Walt Disney World Changes

Over on the opposite coast, Walt Disney World will see an increase as well….sort of.

Per Disney, Genie+ will vary in price based on the date a guest is visiting. This pricing structure is similar to theme park tickets, throughout the year, as prices may be lower on less busy days and higher during peak periods like Thanksgiving and Christmas.

For example, now through the end of October, prices will remain at $15 per Guest, per day, on less busy dates. Price will jump to $22 on some of the busier dates, and will fluctuate between $15 – $22, in between on other dates (plus tax; prices subject to change beyond October).

We Knew it was Coming

The writing has been on the wall for a few months now with Genie+. We have used this product at Disneyland as well as Walt Disney World and found Disneyland to work FAR better. It’s a great product overall but we wish Walt Disney World would make adjustments to the actual functionality of the product instead of increasing the price…. and take a page out of the Disneyland playbook and include memory maker!

What’s your take on the news from today? Yay or Nay? We are curious to hear what you think about this.
