Why Oogie Boogie Bash Is Worth It
Unlike many Halloween events, Oogie Boogie Bash isn’t just about collecting candy.
The event transforms Disney California Adventure into an immersive Halloween celebration featuring Disney villains, live entertainment, exclusive character appearances, specialty food, themed merchandise, and attractions with significantly shorter wait times.
It’s one of Disneyland Resort’s most popular seasonal events for families, Disney fans, and Halloween lovers alike.
Arrive Early: Your Party Starts at 3 PM
Although the official party doesn’t begin until 6:00 PM, guests may enter Disney California Adventure as early as 3:00 PM.
Those extra three hours provide plenty of time to enjoy attractions before the party officially begins.
During my visit, we headed straight to Cars Land before exploring Avengers Campus, where we met several Marvel characters before the park transformed into its Halloween celebration.
Taking advantage of early entry made the evening feel much longer and allowed us to focus on party-exclusive entertainment once Halloween festivities officially began.

Trick-or-Treat Trails & Disney Villains
One of the biggest highlights of Oogie Boogie Bash is the collection of themed Trick-or-Treat Trails located throughout the park.
These aren’t ordinary candy stations.
Each trail features immersive lighting, music, themed décor, live performances, and Disney villains interacting with guests while Cast Members hand out generous amounts of candy.
The villain lineup changes slightly each year, making every season feel fresh.
During my visit, featured villains included:
- Oogie Boogie
- Maleficent
- Hades
- Ernesto de la Cruz
- Dr. Doofenshmirtz
- Agatha Harkness
The combination of storytelling, entertainment, and endless candy easily made these trails one of my favorite experiences of the evening.
Exclusive Characters You Can’t Meet Any Other Time
One of the biggest reasons Disney fans return year after year is the exclusive character meet-and-greets. Many characters appear in Halloween costumes or special outfits that are only available during Oogie Boogie Bash.
My favorite?
Meeting Daisy Duck, Minnie Mouse, and Clarabelle Cow dressed as the Sanderson Sisters from Hocus Pocus. For Disney character fans, moments like these make the event feel truly one-of-a-kind.
Attractions Stay Open
Unlike many after-hours events, a large selection of Disney California Adventure attractions remains open throughout the party. Since attendance is limited, wait times are often much shorter than during normal park hours. Many guests spend the evening balancing attractions with trick-or-treat trails, entertainment, and character experiences.
Specialty Food & Merchandise
Oogie Boogie Bash also offers exclusive seasonal treats, beverages, and merchandise available only during the event. Menus change annually, giving returning guests something new to discover each Halloween season.
Oogie Boogie Bash Dessert Party
If watching the parade is high on your priority list, the Dessert Party is worth considering.
For $94 per person, guests receive:
- Reserved parade viewing
- Individual charcuterie and dessert box
- Beer, wine, soft drinks, and bottled water
- Exclusive commemorative Oogie Boogie pin
The reserved seating meant we never had to spend valuable party time saving a viewing location—a huge benefit during such a limited-time event.

Frightfully Fun Parade
If there’s one entertainment offering you shouldn’t miss, it’s the Frightfully Fun Parade.
The parade begins with Ichabod Crane and the legendary Headless Horseman before giving way to beautifully themed floats, Disney villains, Halloween favorites, incredible dancers, and atmospheric lighting throughout the route. I’ve attended many Disney Halloween celebrations, and this remains one of my favorite parades Disney has ever produced.
Villains Grove
As the evening winds down, don’t miss Villains Grove in Grizzly Peak.
Rather than a traditional haunted house, this walkthrough experience combines projection mapping, fog, lighting, music, and special effects to create an immersive journey through a mysterious forest inspired by Disney villains.
It’s haunting, beautiful, and unlike anything else Disney offers.
