History and Inspiration

Mardi Gras, or “Fat Tuesday” in French, is deeply rooted in the cultural traditions of New Orleans, Louisiana. The celebration has its roots in religious observances, marking the final day of feasting before the solemn season of Lent begins. Over the centuries, Mardi Gras has evolved into a joyous and colorful celebration known for its lively parades, elaborate costumes, and festive atmosphere. Universal Orlando’s adaptation brings this cultural celebration to life within the magical confines of the theme park.

Parades

One of the main highlights of Universal Orlando’s Mardi Gras is the spectacular parade that winds its way through the park. Featuring vibrant floats, costumed performers, and beads of every color tossed to the crowd, the parade captures the essence of the New Orleans celebration. Each float is a work of art, adorned with intricate designs and thematic elements that transport spectators to the heart of Mardi Gras.

Fun Fact! Each parade float you see was once an active parade float in the main New Orleans celebration.
