Is That a Floating Car?
Quick answer is YES! Yes, it is! The Vintage Amphicar’s at Disney Springs are quite the sight and a lot of fun. Located in Disney Springs right outside of the BOATHOUSE® Restaurant you will find Amphicar Landing that houses a handful of colorful 1960’s convertibles, that are both land and seaworthy. Adding to the splashtastic excitement, the BOATHOUSE® is the only location in the world that offers Amphicar tours!
We had the privilege to partake in this experience a few trips ago and man-o-man! It was a blast! Keep reading to learn more!
Per the BOATHOUSE®, each car is a model 770 Amphicar and was named after its ability to achieve speeds of seven knots in the water, and 70 mph on land. From 1961 tp 1968, 3,878 Amphicars were manufactured in Germany with 3,046 of those being imported into the United States. The Amphicars have a rear-engine and a 4-cylinder Triumph Herald motor.
Fun Fact! Jimmy Carter and Lyndon B. Johnson, two past American Presidents, owned Amphicars!
Cost, Details and Tips
The Amphicar Tour takes you around Lake Buena Vista on a 20-minute guided drive and offers fun facts and a bit of history of the area and Disney Parks. Tours also offer a different vantage point of Disney Springs that is not normally seen!
- Schedule – Cars run from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM daily (weather permitting).
- Price – $125 per car. Each car can ONLY accommodate 3-4 people.
- Tickets – Walk-up (in person) reservations ONLY and are first come first served. Reservations are made at The BOATHOUSE BOATIQUE store located adjacent to the BOATHOUSE® Restaurant entrance.
On the day of our visit, we arrived around 3:00PM and put our name on the reservation list, at the boatique. Our call back was approximately 6:30PM with a requested arrival time of 15 minutes before.
Once the clock struck 6:15, we checked in at the podium and were quickly greeted, given the drill of what to expect and what comes next and given a life vest for the small guy.
All children are required to wear a life jacket so the tiny human was fitted with the appropriate size before boarding.
Side note: There were a whole host of life vest sizes, from toddler on up!
During the boarding process Cast Members are on hand to take your picture! Photos are available to purchase at an additional charge, however, IF you have purchased Memory Maker, your pictures are complementary! Simply visit the boatique after your tour and you will be given instructions on how to upload to your My Disney Experience account.
The boarding process takes all of 10 or so minutes and is a complete run down of what to expect, what you will see and what to do in case of a dreaded emergency!
Once we were settled and Amphicar educated…… we were off! Our 20-minute clock began, and we splashed our way into Lake Buena Vista.
PRO TIP: Try for a time around 6:30-7:00PM (time of year dependent) so you can have a tour during sunset! Makes for beautiful pictures and a fantastic, unique experience.

In the end, it’s no secret that we travel to Disney destinations ALOT and we are always (what seems like always at least) in the Orlando Parks! We try to experience something above and beyond each trip and this was by far our absolute favorite, and certainly the most unique experience, we have ever done.
Is it expensive, yes….. BUT, YOLO, right! You only live once so get out there and enjoy it!
As we mentioned, a 20 minute, guided tour runs $125. Discounts are available if you are a DVC member or an annual passholder. The price, in our opinion, is appropriate for the tour and comes with memories that will last a lifetime!
