What’s Happening at Disneyland This Fall

Who’s ready for Halloween?  Too soon?  Disneyland in Anaheim California is getting all set for the fall season!  This past week, they announced some spooky details for their plans to celebrate that ghostly time of year is Disneyland this fall.  In addition, Disney’s California Adventure has added a nod to a newly released Disney film during their Nighttime spectacular, and more information has been released on the plans for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure attraction.

Oogie Boogie Bash- A Disney Halloween Party 2023

Beginning September 5, you can once again visit Disney’s California Adventure Park for a ghostly good time.  Oogie Boogie Bash will run on 25 select nights through October 31.  The special ticketed event includes popular attractions, themed food, beverages, and more.

This event gives kids and adults the option to wear a costume and trick or treat around the park (some restrictions apply).   Not only can you dress up, but the characters will be in their best Halloween costumes as well for unique meet and greets as well as photo opportunities.  You may even run into a villain or 2.

Speaking of villains, The Frightfully Fun Parade is returning for 2023 with the Headless Horseman leading the way.  The parade is strong on villain vibes, which is different than its daytime counterpart “Magic Happens”.  Also returning is the Mickey Trick or Treat Show in Disneyland this fall as well as ride overlays such as Jack Skellington and the cast of “The Nightmare Before Christmas” hijacking the Haunted Mansion.

Also, for this Autumn, the Disneyland Resort in general will pull out all the stops.  Outside of the Oogie Boogie Bash, some characters will dress in their Halloween best during the day for both meet and greets as well as photo opportunities.  Disneyland this fall will be decked out in bright colorful decorations of marigolds and pumpkins.

Disney’s California Adventure

Three attractions inside DCA will get a frightful make-over for the scream season.  In Radiator Springs, Mader’s Junkyard Jamboree will morph into Mader’s Graveyard JamBOOree.  That’s not the only Cars experience to get a mysterious overhaul. Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters becomes Luigi’s Honkin’ Haul-o-ween.  Meanwhile after dark the Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout takes on a much darker theme on Guardians of the Galaxy: Monsters after Dark.  You tasked with helping the guardians save groot from some sinister creatures.

Paradise Gardens in DCA will take on a transformation all its own.  From September 1 through November 2, this area of the park will become Plaza de la Familia with tributes to Dia de los Muertos all season long.

This is where you find the bright colors of “The Day of The Dead” proudly displayed.  Music will fill the air with singers, dancers and Mariachi bands performing “a Musical Celebration of Coco” several times during the day.  Meet Miguel for a special photo op, and have lunch at Paradise Garden Grill, which will be serving up Mexican cuisine.

Disneyland Park

Over at Disneyland Park, you’ll notice the Pumpkin Festival theming on Main Street USA during the day while at night, it becomes the backdrop for the Halloween Screams Nighttime Spectacular.  This is a special effect and projection show set to a Halloween themed musical score.  It will reach from It’s a Small World to the Rivers of America along with Sleeping Beauty Castle and Main Street.

This show will take the place of the current “Wonderous Journey” which will end August 31, and it will include fireworks on select nights.  It will also interact with Magicband+ much like all the recent Nighttime spectaculars since their release.

Haunted Mansion Holiday during Halloween Time at Disneyland Park features a merry makeover of the beloved eerie estate. Jack Skellington is behind the mayhem, decorating the mansion with frightfully festive touches inspired by “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas.” Dedicated fans of the holiday house will look forward to spotting the annual bespoke gingerbread house on its precarious perch on the ballroom table. Other favorite sights await, including characters from the movie, Sally, Zero and other Nightmare nasties on hand. (Disneyland Resort)

And…. the Haunted Mansion overly isn’t just for the Halloween Party!  You can experience this transformation in the park during the day through the Christmas season.

Downtown Disney

Lastly, Pluto’s Pumpkin Pursuit returns this year for Autumn in the shopping and dining district.  You can pick up a map at most merchandise locations and go on a scavenger hunt for character themed pumpkins around Downtown Disney.  If you find them all, go home with a collectable keepsake as a souvenir.

Elemental Connection at Disneyland

A new “water short” has been added to Disney’s California Adventure Nighttime Spectacular for a limited time.  This addition is in honor of Disney and Pixar’s new film “Elemental” and will begin the “World of Color” performance

The 2-minute performance will bring to life the elements of land, water, air and fire as they struggle to coexist with differences and triumph because of their similarities.

Music Will Bring Tiana’s Bayou Adventure to Life

This week, Disney Imagineering released the news that award winning artists and New Orleans natives PJ Morton and Terence Blanchard will create the music for the new attraction.  The goal of the collaboration is to bring to life the musical culture of New Orleans.  Per Disney, this is a “Lyrical Love Letter to the Region”.  Original music and favorites from the movie “The Princess and The Frog” will be featured in both the queue and ride.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure attraction is being created on the ride system that was formerly Splash Mountain.  It will remain a “log flume” water attraction with all new theming both in Walt Disney World and Disneyland.
