Exploring Cumberland Falls State Resort Park

Exploring Cumberland Falls State Resort Park

I recently had the pleasure of exploring the natural beauty and tranquility of Cumberland Falls State Resort Park in Kentucky. Nestled in the heart of the Daniel Boone National Forest, this park is a gem that offers an array of outdoor activities, breathtaking scenery, and a chance to reconnect with nature.

Arrival and First Impressions

Driving into Cumberland Falls State Resort Park immediately surrounded us in lush greenery and tranquility. The park’s entrance welcomed us with clear signage, providing maps and detailed information about the park’s attractions and trails. The sense of peace and natural beauty that surrounded us set the perfect tone for the stay ahead.

Accommodations

For our stay, we chose one of the park’s cozy cabins, which offered a perfect blend of rustic charm and modern comfort. The cabin was well-equipped with all the necessary amenities, including a fully stocked kitchen, comfortable beds, and a private deck that offered views of the surrounding forest.

Additionally, we had access to the park’s pool, basketball and tennis courts, which provided great options for some fun and exercise. Breakfast at the lodge was a wonderful way to start our day, with a variety of delicious options to fuel us for our adventures.

Outdoor Activities

Cumberland Falls State Resort Park offers quite a variety of outdoor activities that kept us excited throughout our stay. We explored several hiking trails, each showcasing the park’s natural beauty. One of the highlights was hiking to Eagle Falls a moderately challenging hike that rewards you with stunning views of Eagle Falls, (a smaller but equally beautiful waterfall) where we enjoyed some breathtaking views of the waterfall and the ability to dive into a fresh water spring.

Horseback riding provided a unique way to experience the park’s scenic landscapes, offering a different perspective of the surrounding area. The trails were well-maintained, and the experience was both thrilling and serene.

No visit to the park would be complete without experiencing the awe-inspiring Cumberland Falls. Often referred to as the “Niagara of the South,” this 68-foot waterfall is truly a sight to behold. Rafting next to Cumberland Falls was an exhilarating adventure. Paddling through the waters and getting up close to the majestic falls was an unforgettable experience.

One of the most unique experiences at Cumberland Falls is witnessing the moonbow. This natural phenomenon, which occurs only at a few locations around the world, happens when the moonlight refracts off the mist of the falls, creating a rainbow at night. We unfortunately were leaving two nights before this amazing experience was to occur. I definitely plan to go back and catch it sometime though!

My trip to Cumberland Falls State Resort Park was a perfect blend of adventure, relaxation, and natural beauty. Whether you’re looking to hike, fish, or simply unwind in a serene setting, this park has something for everyone. I left feeling refreshed and inspired, already planning my next visit to this Kentucky treasure. If you’re looking for a memorable outdoor escape, Cumberland Falls State Resort Park should definitely be on your list. Reach out to me or any of the wonderful planners at DizN Vacations!
