The sun is setting on the Cretaceous period at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. For decades, DinoLand U.S.A. has been a place of quirky roadside charm, fossil digs, and high-stakes time travel. However, the permits have been filed and the construction walls are already shifting. If you want to say your final goodbyes to the Dino Institute, the clock is officially ticking.

Final Operating Dates for DINOSAUR and Restaurantosaurus
The most important date to circle on your calendar is February 2, 2026. This is the day DinoLand U.S.A. officially goes extinct.
Because the land closes on the 2nd, your last chance to ride DINOSAUR is February 1, 2026. On this day, the Time Rovers will take their final missions to rescue the Iguanodon before the asteroid hits. Fans will flock to the park during this final weekend. Expect high wait times as they make one last “left, right, left, right” through the prehistoric jungle.

At the same time, Restaurantosaurus will serve its final prehistoric burgers and sundae toppings on February 1. This closure is a cornerstone of the land’s “student dig site” back-story. It marks the end of the land’s unique “Chester & Hester” lore.
A Taste of the Past at Harambe Market
Fans of the Restaurantosaurus menu don’t have to say goodbye to their favorite quick-service staples forever. Rumors and park updates show that several fan-favorite menu items will migrate to the Harambe Market. This includes the classic burgers and chicken strips.

Harambe Market is undergoing a brief refurbishment. This is to expand its kitchen capacity. It will also accommodate these new (yet familiar) offerings. This ensures that even as the landscape of the park changes, families will still have access. They will continue to enjoy those reliable crowd-pleasing meals.
Looking Ahead: The Arrival of Tropical Americas
The walls have gone up. The heavy machinery has moved in. The transformation into the Tropical Americas is underway. Disney has not yet announced a specific opening date for the new land. However, Disney has confirmed that this 11-acre expansion will be themed around “Pueblo Esperanza.” It will be a vibrant, lush village inspired by the biodiversity of Central and South America.

Current concept art and models on exhibit show a complete reimagining of the space:
- The Casita from Encanto: A brand-new attraction is coming to the heart of the land. It is centered around the magical Madrigal family home. Guests will step inside the Casita and join Antonio on an adventure through his rainforest-themed bedroom.
- Indiana Jones Adventure: The massive show building that currently houses DINOSAUR will be transformed into an Indiana Jones-themed attraction. The ride system (Enhanced Motion Vehicles) will remain. Disney has clarified that this will not be a replica of the Disneyland version. It will feature entirely new lore. The story centers on Indy exploring a perfectly preserved Maya temple. He is in search of a mythical creature.
- A New Hub: The central area of the land will feature a large, ornate fountain. It will also include a unique wood-carved carousel. This carousel features animals from various Disney stories.

Navigating the Construction
Visitors to Animal Kingdom throughout 2026 should prepare for a significant amount of construction equipment. They should also expect large walls throughout the former DinoLand area. The sight of cranes might change the skyline of the park temporarily. However, the payoff will be one of the most immersive lands Disney has ever created.
Plan Your Final Mission
You might be a lifelong fan of the Dino Institute. Or maybe you’re eager to see the first glimpses of Indiana Jones in Florida. The final weeks of DinoLand will be a historic moment for Walt Disney World fans.
