If there’s one constant at Walt Disney World, it’s change! And 2025 is shaping up to be a transformative year across Disney parks. From long-standing attraction closures to major new developments, the Disney magic is evolving. How might it affect your next trip? Let’s take a look at how refurbishments and construction will change Disney in 2025.
Magic Kingdom is in a visible state of transition.
Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America in Magic Kingdom are closing July 7, with the area undergoing an extended refurbishment. This is in preparation for its reimagining as the upcoming Piston Peak National Park. The much-loved Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is also temporarily unavailable until 2026 as part of that expansion.

This refurbishment and construction at Disney for 2025 are just the beginning. Disney has confirmed expansion plans beyond Big Thunder that are expected to introduce a brand-new land—the long-awaited Villains-themed area. While we don’t have confirmed opening dates, construction activity is ramping up behind the scenes.
In Adventureland, a new Pirates of the Caribbean-themed lounge- the Beak & Barrel Tavern is in development. Though Disney hasn’t released an official timeline for its debut, construction is active. Many guests are catching glimpses of progress behind construction walls.

Over at Animal Kingdom
At Animal Kingdom Park, we’re saying a slow goodbye to DinoLand U.S.A. Demolition and refurbishment work has begun in select areas. Although, parts of the land—like the Dinosaur attraction, Restaurantosaurus and Dino-Bite Snacks—remain open for now.

Another noticeable change? The Tree of Life theater, which once housed It’s Tough to Be a Bug, is now surrounded by construction walls. Disney has confirmed this area will transform into Zootopia- Better Zoogether with no official opening date yet.
EPCOT
On the other hand, Epcot is celebrating a new chapter. The highly anticipated Test Track reimagining will open on July 22, 2025. Inspired by the original World of Motion attraction, the new version will blend sleek technology with retro storytelling. It gives guests a fresh take on a classic thrill ride.

The attraction promises to be a standout addition to EPCOT’s evolving World Discovery neighborhood. Also, Disney has indicated it will close Spaceship Earth on August 25 for routine maintenance. No official timeline has been announced.
With so much happening across the parks, staying informed is more important than ever. Most importantly, if you’re planning a visit in 2025 or beyond. Construction walls may limit access to familiar favorites, but they also signal incredible new experiences ahead.
