Introducing Lightning Lane Multi Pass: The New Way to Skip Lines at Disney Parks

Introducing Lightning Lane Multi Pass: The New Way to Skip Lines at Disney Parks

A trip to Disney parks is about to get even easier!  On July 24, 2024, the Genie+ (skip the line feature) will disappear, and a new, more “user-friendly” system will take its place.  Disney is introducing Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Singe Pass to replace Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lane purchases.  This system will allow park guest to pre-purchase and plan reservations to skip the line at participating attractions before they visit.

Updates to Disney Genie+

I can’t rightfully call this an update because the Disney Genie+ system is going away.  A new “skip the line” system will take its place!  Lightning Lane Multi Pass will debut at 7am EST on July 24, 2024.  This new system, like the former Fastpass+ feature, will allow park guests to pre-schedule their Lightning Lane reservations days ahead of their trip.  This feature makes planning even group vacations easier! Up to 20 guests are included in your Lightning Lane reservations.

Disney World

Guests at Disney World property resorts will have the option to purchase and schedule up to 3 reservations per park day, 7 days in advance of their arrival.  In addition, Lightning Lane Single Pass will take the place of Individual Lightning Lane purchases.  Disney resort guests can choose to book 2 premium attraction reservations per park visit 7 days before arriving.

Non-resort guests and non-date-based ticket holders can do the same 3 days prior to their park visit.  Lastly, both multi pass and single pass will be available for purchase in a single transaction through the “My Disney Experience” app.   Most importantly, available reservations will be viewable before purchase.  (*purchases are non-refundable)

Let’s Break It Down

  • Guests can purchase and plan up to 3 Lightning Lane reservations per park day through the Multi Pass feature.
  • The option opens at 7am EST 7 days prior to the first day on property for the length of stay up to 14 days.
  • Lightning Lane Single Pass (Individual Lightning Lanes) can also be purchased and pre-booked starting at 7 days before the first day on property (only 2 per day).
  • Both Multi and Single Pass features can be purchased in one transaction through the “My Disney Experience” account.
  • Lightning Lane reservations can only be scheduled for one park per day.  However, further reservations can be made in other parks during your visit with a park hopper ticket.
  • Additional Lightning Lane reservations can be made once guests are in the park and using their existing reservations.

Non-Resort Guests, Non-Date Based Tickets That Require a Reservation (Example: Annual Passholders.)

  • Can purchase and preschedule up to 3 Lightning Lane reservations through the Multi Pass feature 3 days ahead of their park visit.
  • 2 Lightning Lane Single Pass reservations can also be purchased through the app 3 days ahead of their park visit.

Otherwise, the same rules apply.  Lastly, if a guest has a non-date-based ticket or annual pass along with a Disney owned resort reservation, the resort stay is prioritized.  That park guest will be able to purchase and schedule Lightning Lane reservations 7 days ahead of their stay.

In other words, Disney resort guests will have first “dibs” at reservations for their park visits no matter what type of ticket they have.

Disneyland

Disneyland in California will also see the name change to the system as of July 24.  However, the functionality of the service will not change at this time.  Guests at Disneyland Resort parks will continue to purchase Lightning Lane Multi and/or Single Pass as a ticket add-on and make selections once they are in the parks.

Guests will also have the same ability to purchase the features separately through the app the day of their park visit.

Disney is transforming the way guests experience park visits.  Disney Genie+ will no longer exist as a way of skipping the regular lines at park attractions.  As of July 24, 2024, the new Lightning Lane Multi Pass along with Lightning Lane Single Pass will debut in the Disney Parks app.  Guests of the parks will then be able to pre-purchase and schedule skipping the lines days ahead of their visit.
